Currumbin Beach House - an Award Winner
HIA 2011 Award Winner - Custom Home Category
The perfect location for pro surfer Bede Durbidge, wife Tarryn and new addition baby Willow was the beachside address of Woodgee Street, Currumbin. The narrow block presented challenges for both design and construction. With the street elevation being for first impressions, it was important not to have the garage too dominant. This was achieved by the use of designer block and a timber boardwalk which draws attentions to the oversized entry gate. Once inside, the courtyard opens up as you walk the covered boardwalk which separates the detached garage from the home. This is no ordinary garage, it has room for a tow in jet ski and some 30 surfboards (an essential item).
The courtyard is private and features a plunge pool and grassed area for babies play time. Entering the home you are greeted with a long view to the rear of the home and a open timber staircase. The Linea design of the home flows well as you move through the front living area which overlooks the courtyard and plunge pool, then on to the open plan kitchen/dining area with large island bench being the centre of activity. The second living area is well accessed through a large opening created by double cavity sliding doors. This area blends well with the outdoor undercover entertainment area. The use of a corner sliding door seems to enhance all the openness of the rear of the home. As you take the walk upstairs it feels deceivingly spacious with a study nook, well placed in what could have been wasted space. With good separation from the other bedrooms, the main bedroom is located at the end of the hallway.
Well appointed with a fully built in walk in robe and an ensuite with walk in shower, bath, double vanity and a separate make-up table. The main bedroom is opulent.
A large deck ajoins the main bedroom with views to the ocean. Structural provision is in place for another deck, accessed via a spiral staircase to a viewing platform on the roof top level. This will provide the ability for a early morning surf check from Snapper Rocks to Currumbin Alley and only seconds from the bed. What more could a keen surfer want.
